Amelia grew up in Southern California
riding and training hunter and jumper show horses. In 1992,
she moved to a large cattle ranch. She took up the sport of
team roping, and, began raising dogs to use on the ranch. When
one of the dogs did not quite work out for ranch work, Amelia
remembered an old friend who had been involved in sheepdog
trialing. That dog was the genesis of her involvement in the
sport of sheepdog trialing.
In
2002, she purchased fourteen-month old, Price, and her sheepdog
trialing career began in earnest. They qualified for the 2002
United States Border Collie Handler’s Association
National Nursery Finals, and, soon became successful on the open
trial field as well.
Amelia
has won and placed at some of North America ’s biggest and most prestigious sheepdog trials.
In 2005, she was invited to travel with the United States Sheepdog
Handler’s Team to Tullamore , Ireland to compete in the
World Sheepdog Championship. Also, during that same year,
Amelia became a finalist at the Bluegrass Sheepdog Trial in Lexington
, Kentucky . She went on to claim sixth place at the Meeker Classic
Sheepdog Trial in Colorado , and, finished sixth at the
USBCHA National Sheepdog Finals in Sturgis , South Dakota . In
Bonanza, Oregon, she was sixth at the 2005 Western States Regional
Sheepdog Championship, and, was awarded the Rupert Poe memorial
shepherd’s crook for Rookie of the Year.
In
addition to training and trialing stock dogs, Amelia has a successful
career in real estate, and, continues her lifelong involvement
in the horse business.
