About
Amelia grew up in Southern California riding and training hunter and jumper show horses. In 1992, she moved to a large cattle ranch and took up the sport of team roping. Amelia began raising dogs to work on the ranch. When one of the dogs did not work out, she remembered an old friend who had been involved in sheepdog trialing and gave it a try. That dog was the genesis of her involvement in the sport.
In 2001, she purchased 14 month old Price and her trialing career began in earnest. They qualified for the 2001 United States Border Collie Handler's Association National Nursery Finals, and, soon became successful on the open trial field as well. Amelia has qualified for the National Finals every year since 2001.
Amelia has won and placed at some of North America's biggest and most prestigious sheepdog trials, including the Meeker Championship, Soldier Hollow Classic, The Bluegrass and the National Finals. In 2005, she was invited to travel with the United States Sheepdog Handler's Team to Tullamore, Ireland and compete in the World Sheepdog Championship. While there she placed 2nd at the long-running Wooler Trial in North England against 55 of Great Britain's best.
In 2008 Amelia began publishing The Real Time Canine, a weekly subscription-based newsletter sent by e-mail each Sunday describing in words and pictures the real life and training of a puppy. Please visit her blog from the homepage of this website for information on how to subscribe.
Amelia has also written articles for sheepdog publications. Her writing has appeared in American Border Collie Magazine, Working Border Collie Magazine, International Sheepdog News, San Diego Pets Magazine, The Soldier Hollow Sheepdog Classic official program, and the United States Border Collie Club quarterly newsletter among others. Please contact her directly to have her write a training or general interest piece for your publication or club.
In addition to training and trialing stock dogs, Amelia has a successful career in real estate and continues her lifelong involvement in the horse business. Amelia is available for training, lessons, clinics and judging.
